Amr Gamal

Amr Gamal is an independent from Aden city, Yemen. In 2003, Gamal received the President's Award for playwriting, and in 2005, he established the Khaleej Aden Theater Troupe and has written and directed all of the troupe's theater productions since. His play MA'K NAZEL became the first Yemeni play to be performed in Europe (Berlin) after its big success in Yemen. His first feature film, 10 DAYS BEFORE THE WEDDING, premiered in Aden in the summer, becoming the first film to open commercially in Yemen in three decades.

THE BURDENED

The story follows the struggles of a married couple and their three children after both husband and wife lose their jobs as a result of the country’s economic crisis. After the mother discovers she is carrying a fourth child, the beleaguered parents try to get an abortion, despite their community's conservative stance, forcing the family to make tough decisions in order to survive.

Madeline goes every morning to the sea and works on a tourist boat in the sea despite the dangers she faces being the only girl working in the sea, she sacrifices her life to support her family... After her father was attacked a year ago on an Israeli boat in the sea and she lost the boat, She bravely worked on a fishing boat, becoming the first girl to work at sea in the Gaza Strip. A human story told by Madeleine, her work on a tourist boat in a port, and her story with the sea and the camp in which she lives.

Emily Jacir

Emily Jacir is an artist, filmmaker, and educator whose practice spans a range of strategies, including film, photography, sculpture, interventions, archiving, performance, video, writing, and sound. Jacir has built a complex and compelling oeuvre through a diverse range of media and methodologies that include unearthing historical material, performative gestures, and in-depth research. Her work investigates personal and collective movement through public space and its implications on the physical and social experience of trans-mediterranean space and time.
