Drops

A skinny and quirky water drop named Philly is born in a cloud over Denmark. He lands and comes to life among other droplets. Philly meets the girl drop Lilly and together they explore their materiality. As the sun reappears, the drops are confronted with the fact that the rain cannot last forever. Fear spreads. But Philly’s naive and curious personality makes him different than the other drops. Together he and Lilly set out to confront their destiny and find out what happens when they step out into the sun. In an imaginative universe, animation director Karsten Kjærulf-Hoop brings hand-painted watercolor figures to life and tells a life-affirming story about the cycle of life.

Amer Albarzawi

Amer Albarzawi (born in 1987 to Syrian parents), grew up in Damascus. He has always been passionate about music, theatre and cinema and, after studying economics at the University of Damascus, he joined a theatre dance group. He has worked with several theatre groups and participated in many Arab and international dance festivals.He directed the stop motion film, FADE TO BLACK, which received the Special Jury Award from the Toronto Urban Film Festival. His stop motion film, YAMAN, was awarded Best Short Film Award at Dhaka International Film Festival.

Sarah Jungen and Karsten Kjærulf-Hoop

Sarah Jungen (born in 1992)  is a Swiss-American visual artist and director who grew up in South America. She graduated from the Russian Academy of Art in Florence, Italy, with a degree in Fine Arts. Together with Karsten Hoop, she has directed the short film DROPS (2017). She also owns the studio KASA, based in Denmark.
Karsten Hoop (born in 1989 in Düsseldorf) is a character animator and director. He has a BA in Character Animation from the VIA University College in Denmark. He directed and worked as an animator on his graduation film, THE GREAT HARLOT AND THE BEAST. In 2013, Karsten took a leave of absence from the animation workshop to do a one-year diploma in Fine Arts at the Russian Academy of Art in Florence, Italy. That is where he met Sarah Jungen, and together they have directed the short film, DROPS (2017)

Jannik Hastrup

Jannik Hastrup is considered Denmark’s grand master of animation. He produced and directed some 60 animated short films, among them the Danish classics BENNY’S BATHTUB (1970), CIRCLEEN (1967-71), SAMSON & SALLY (1984), and the Cannes Junior winner WAR OF THE BIRDS (1990) became international festival hits, selling worldwide. While his films appeal to all ages, the biographical HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN AND THE LONG SHADOW (1997) was his first film designated for a mature audience. THE BOY WHO WANTED TO BE A BEAR (2003) was an international success which won numerous prizes. The characters in his short films, such as city mice, went on to feature films and reached international stardom.
