The PLO’s film-making was a work in exile. Different ways of collaboration with befriended states, organizations or comrades were necessary for the production and distribution of the works. Some films were credited as PLO productions, other were not. The reason for the missing credit often is simply that until the end of the 1990s it was not common to mention the financer of a film. Because of the Palestinian conditions this makes it difficult to trace and define the film heritage though.
Germany was a strong partner for cooperation in the field of cinema for the PLO. While the closeness between the former socialist German state (1949-1989) and the PLO is relatively well known, the relations to capitalist Germany are barely ever mentioned. In this program three West-German film-makers will present works they did with the PLO and give an insight to their ways of production and our mutual film heritage.
This Panel will be followed by the screening of WHY?
